"Seeing those purple porches, it's like there are people that are listening. There are people that care when you're going through something like this [domestic abuse], you feel really alone...It could be your next-door neighbor that needs help, and maybe just seeing that purple porch, they know it's a safe place. We need all the safe places we can have."
-Heather, a survivor of domestic abuse that received support from Harbor House
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Help spread awareness of domestic violence, and show your support of Harbor House, with the Purple Porch Project. For the month of October, we are asking the community to switch out their standard porch light(s) with purple bulbs and/or add purple outdoor lights (flood lights, string lights, etc.)
Lighting up your porch in purple shows you:
- Care about the issue of domestic violence
- Want to spread awareness of the programs and services available locally for individuals experiencing domestic violence.
- Support survivors of domestic violence
Share your support of ending domestic violence in our community
by posting a picture of your purple porch!

Do you or someone you know own a marquee sign?
We are looking for local business/individuals that would be interested in joining our Purple Porch Project in October by helping us promote the campaign and its mission. If you are interested, please reach out to Kim Davis, Harbor House's Marketing and Donor Relations Coordinator at kim.davis@harborhousewi.org.
