Announcing the 20/20 Community Challenge
A generous community member has pledged $20,000 to furnish four family bedrooms in phase two of our Building Hope Campaign and wants to use her gift to encourage the community to support families impacted by abuse through programming at Harbor House. All gifts will be matched dollar for dollar through May 31, or when the $20,000 goal is reached.
Witnessing the abuse of a parent is one of the most traumatic things a child can experience. And often the abuse is not only directed at the protective parent, but also endured by the child. The potential risks faced by children who have been exposed to domestic abuse can be overwhelming, but they are not inevitable. As our Children’s Advocate, Shelly, says “kids need to know that the trauma they’ve experienced does not define them.” The programming provided through Harbor House helps children heal from the trauma that they have experienced so that they can live into their fullest, healthiest potential and stop the cycle of abuse.
Harbor House has walked alongside hundreds of families over the years and there’s nothing more encouraging than hearing from the courageous women and children we have served, who have found a life free from abuse and filled with love and joy.
“I’ll never forget the way Wendy told me that I would “never have to live like that again.” She told me by getting down to my level, looking into my eyes and holding both of my hands. She was very confident, yet gentle when she spoke and really made me believe it. I was so in awe of her, and I wanted to be able to be strong through compassion the way she was. I have thought of her often throughout my life. Thanks for your important work and thank for being so strong for so many people who need it.” – Dominick (now 35, who spent his 13th birthday at Harbor House)
Help Us Rise to the Challenge and Double Your Impact to End Domestic Abuse
In 2017, over 500 children received services within Harbor House’s Children’s Program and nearly 60% of the 555 residents served in shelter were children. Your generous gift provides shelter, support and most importantly hope for a future free from abuse.
Give today and help families to see a brighter future beyond abuse!
Together, we can end the cycle of domestic abuse.
